These digital artists use a computer at varying stages of the process to create their artwork. Some artists use a computer from start to finish, whereas others may start with a drawing or paintings and then transfer the image to a computer for final processing. In each case, the resulting artwork has unique attributes.

Digital art has the advantage of being highly scaleable. Therefore it is possible to purchase an image for a book illustration, or the same image many feet across for public display.

Some digital artists create their own libraries of digital transformations and palettes, enabling them to create given effects much quicker and with greater precision than would have been possible from a cold start.
